What was your first dish?

This is embarrassing. Gravy. From a store bought package of powdered gravy. Simple enough right ?? Nope. I decide that I’m going to spice it up. Put probably 2 TBS of black pepper in it. My wife had made mashed potatoes. Needless to say we did not have gravy to go with.
Well I think that shows you are a creative cook. Sometimes it doesn't work but at least you tried!

Irish stew was the first proper meal I cooked. I was 11 and my mum rang from work saying “Make the Irish stew.”

I was terrified as I’d only made toast or fairy cakes up til then. Her instructions were sparse - layer meat and sliced onions, carrots and potatoes in the pot, pour over stock and put it in the oven. I’m amazed I didn’t chop my fingers off 😂

Somehow it came out tasting the same as her Irish Stew. It was a seminal moment for me - So it’s not some sort of magic that only grown ups can do?
From then on I was hooked.
