Crumpets on the griddle

First attempt using the first recipe and to test the recipe, the batter was tried a something approaching the thickness it was at. It is definitely too thick. The thick batter crumpets are on the left. There are no holes, it has failed to fill the crumpet ring and not risen up the sides.
