Afternoon Tea, Anyone?

Being from the home of clotted cream the South West and not some clueless London type (the Queen) I can settle this for everyone and say it’s defo cream before jam 😂

Speaking of clotted cream, I didn’t realise it’s hard to get the real stuff in the US due to the laws about raw milk.

When we bought that afternoon tea stand pictured at the top of this thread, I was disappointed that there were no matching cups/mugs, and salad plates on offer.

When we got home, I figured I’d just go online and certainly find some at their website…nope! Nothing specifically made for it, and nothing that even really matched, that I liked, anyway.

Next option…just find some other maker’s stuff that matched. I was simply looking for solid colors predominate in that bottom plate, so some shade of yellow-gold, or a grassy green, or a pale rose. No problem.

Wrong again! I couldn’t find anything, online or in-store. The closest I found were some cups at my neighbor’s house, which she’d bought at Walmart years ago.

Finally, since I couldn’t find what I wanted, I bought what I could find that was tolerable, which meant grey mugs (solid) and grey salad plates (patterned), knowing they’d be replaced as soon as possible. Spent a whopping $9US on two mugs and four plates.

…and what did I find today at ALDI? Mugs that I actually liked, in rose and in a muted green. MrsT opted for the green, so that’s what we got:

You can’t really tell it from the pic, but there’s a good part of the green that matches perfectly. Now if they’d just make some salad plates in that color…

They match really well, anything with too much colour may be a bit too much.

There are two brands I can get in my area, but I do have to go to either the international market, the fancy-pants gourmet shop, or Whole Foods to get it.

It comes in a very small jar, maybe 3oz, is imported from the UK and costs a whopping $8 for that little bugger!

I think US laws don’t allow the shipping of unpasteurised (raw) milk across state lines. I’m not sure about that now I’ve said it. Sounds a but like drug running or something doesn’t it 😂

I think that if I’m correct the clotted cream you can buy has to be pasteurised. Here it’s not. Some people insist that affects the flavour and texture. I dunno, I’ve never tried pasteurised clotted cream 🤷‍♀️

Have you had a go at making scalded (Clotted) cream. I’m told it’s very easy 🤷‍♀️

I’m sure it is, as it’ll last forever until it’s opened.

I’ve watched several videos on it, it does look very easy, but I’ve never tried it.
I’ve never seen ambient (shelf stable) clotted cream 😂
Strange to think it was a preservation method. Make the top crusty to keep the bacteria out and the underneath will be fine.

Edit: Ha turns out I do know what pasteurised clotted cream tastes like because Rodda’s clotted cream is pasteurised 😁 Can’t say I notice anything odd about it 🤷‍♀️
In a jar though it must of been sterilised rather than pasteurised and I know that does make a big difference to the taste of milk.
