An Idea for a new recipe 'challenge' or just another way of discussing recipe changes?

Do you mean like Lay's come up with a new food flavor?

I agree with you on limiting the number of forums.

I suspect it is the former, but I don't know your competitions in USA. I'm from the UK now living in Australia for 3-4 yrs on secondment.
The sort of thing I was thinking of would be where you have to come up with either a new recipe (this is an example of the result, rather than the competition but would give you an idea https://www.pizzaexpress.com/news/cynf-winner)

But this one would only just 'qualify' because there is a pizza express gift card as one of the prizes, and tbh, that is stretching things big time. I wouldn't expect anyone to post this one. https://www.pizzaexpress.com/ice-age-terms-and-conditions

Hope that helps.

Guinness count?
yes..
OK I will start it tomorrow when I have more time, I will start with my leek and cheese soup recipe. I would intend that water, salt and pepper and any frying oils would not be counted in the 5, also, five spice powder or garam masala etc would be a single ingredient as it comes out of a single jar.
brilliant. But where are you drawing the line. If spice and herb mixes out of a jar (or I assume homemade would count - I prefer to make mine, given most are not available to me at the moment) where is the line drawn. I have seen plenty of people claim that their recipe is a 2 ingredient recipe where they then say get a packet of bread mix or better still a packet of velvet layer cake mix... I would hope that neither of those 2 options would qualify.
@SatNavSaysStraightOn you can have multiple ribbons. :okay:
Brilliant. I think the ribbons are better than the trophies I have seen on other Xenoforum sites. The trophies always seems a touch tacky to me. Can you set up a couple of others with some generic titles I can rename please? thanks SNSSO

Done - I've used default styling, but if you need it customising, just let me know. :okay:

If you made a salad or something else, which included a light covering of Olive Oil, the Olive Oil would be counted. But if used to fry something, it wouldn't!

The idea of my thread would be for simple recipes, so actually using a packet mix or something pre-made would be fine. By limiting the ingredients it should bring out easy recipes, and as there is no winner and no prize I am not going to tie people down.

OK - your comp, your rules.
there is no winner
So if no winner, is it a comp? is it a challenge? are you judge each time. Is it a means to generate new recipes? What would be the motivation to participate? Just curious and trying to work it out.

Having spoken with @Shaun, he is happy to have a dedicated sub-forum for competitions and challenges so they are all in one place. He is also happy to have cooking related competitions posted here. He has also proposed a format for them in the following manner in the title "[UK] Walkers - Competition name [end date]"

Is that OK with everyone?

Great. Can we put the cryptic food and drink thread in that sub forum please? I may also start posting some picture quizzes again (remember those?) and then there were the chemical composition quizzes from @classic33.... You don't need prizes for those type of quick fun challenges. People like using them as a coffee/tea break diversion!

Ah, that might be why we are on different tracks, I wasn't thinking of a competition, just a thread for simple recipes, as I said in my original post I couldn't think where to put it as it clearly wouldn't fit into any of the catagorised sections and might not sit in the general discussions. Hence my suggestion of Competitions and Chains.

I think you are right - its not competition material. I think 'chains' is a bit vague though. Perhaps we need another sub forum for recipes with 5 ingredients or less.

I'm mindful though that if we aren't careful we will start adding more and more fora and be back where we started with too many!

I think it fits as a challenge "Can you come up with a recipe using less than 5 ingredients?"

OK - yes thats good. But personally I reckon it should be a more or less original recipe (I know that's a bone of contention) or at least one which has been tested by the poster with a few tasting notes. Its hardly a challenge otherwise. I could Google recipes with 5 ingredients or less and fill the thread up in no time! See below!
