Are you an artist? Or are you a scientist?

I never actually took a degree in anything but my post-grammar school education started off in arts, turned to civil engineering, back to arts, and ended up in engineering and nutrition over about 50 years. At my age, I can't be arsed with qualifications, although I could still apply for the certificates etc if I felt like parting with some of my pension.

A friend of mine got her doctorate when she was in her fifties. I think she was actually a bit pissed off when she got it because it meant she couldn't use her student railcard any more...

I don't need a student railcard. Local rail fares down here are free, as are underground and bus fares. When I do travel farther afield, I go for the cheapest option (which can sometimes be cheaper than having a senior railcard thanks to the intricacies of British train fares).

The god thing is that Tesco vouchers double in size for certain deals - so £15 of vouchers gets a £30 railcard.
I have all good intentions of doing that but end up taking the money off my shopping. The only time I've ever doubled up was when I got my microwave and toaster - for some strange reason I got £34.50 of vouchers in one hit, so I thought I'd better spend them quick as there had obviously been a mistake somewhere along the line.

I love baking and can make sourdough blindfold. I love experimenting with different sourdough flavours.

However, baking is a treat often with too many calories to have only frequent basis.

So I guess the answer in a cook rather than a baker

I am a mixed bag. My university major was applied arts. I never really used that degree. I had a landscaping business for 10 years. That was both art and science. My last 7 years of employment I worked as a Kitchen Specialist for Lowe's. Again both art and science - or at least mathematics. I express myself artistically through crafts - I make decorative bowls from recycled paper, beads for jewelry making from craft paper and recycled paper and most recently I am working on artistic travel journals from recycled packaging and paper as well as broken jewelry, book pages (paperbacks picked up at garage sales for .05), old maps whatever strikes my fancy. I also sew a little.

When it comes to cooking I am more of an artist since I bake very little. I hope the change that after the first of the year.

Speaking of science and cooking. @The Late Night Gourmet - went to Costco this a.m. On the end cap of the book section I found The Food Lab. I just took a peek. Impressive. I will not dive into it until after the holidays.

Same here. What I think of as my first "proper" job was in the building & civil engineering of a large international company as a trainee draughtswoman. Most of the buildings I drew up the plans for have now been demolished for housing estates, but I think there are still one or two left standing on a farm not too far from where I live. I worked as a secretary in a textiles company for a while and, although none of us secretaries had a lot of say, some of our ideas were taken on board. That was in the 1960s; quite an exciting time for anyone in the fashion business. More recently I have run model shops and used to make models professionally as a side-line of those businesses. It was during that time I met a retired gentleman who was a calligrapher. He ran calligraphy classes in all sorts of places and I did attend some of his classes that were held in our area. We always used to have very tongue-in-cheek disagreements - he said he could see the technical drawing coming through in my work, but where was the artist in me? I did do some creative works using "junk". Maybe, if I'd have stayed at it, steampunk would have been my line. Still, I've always gone back to the safe option - typing - as I've always needed a regular income. Who knows, maybe now that I have my pension I could try again.

I was interested by this - I'm not sure what this means... can you post an image or explain a bit more?
