Asparagus

I love asparagus and I have just been told that I have an asparagus farm not far from me. I don't notice a smell to it in particular but I do like the taste of it.
I used to have it either in butter, or with a touch of Irish blue cheese melted over it. Café Paradiso in Cork does a wonderful asparagus dish. It is such a shame that I can't get there at the moment. Wild hop tops are also very nice at this time of year as well. I shall have to keep an eye out because I am sure I have seen some wild hops around here, I just can't think where right now.

I am a huge fan of asparagus and actually just stocked up on it yesterday as I found that it was on discount at the grocery store. My favorite way to eat the veggie is to fry it in a little bit of butter until the edges start to get crispy. I really enjoy it when the florets on top are a little crunchy and soaked with butter. Not the healthiest way to eat it, I know, but it sure does taste good.

We do like asparagus and eat a lot of it when it is in season. My husband likes to grill it and I would mostly prepare it roasted. Lately though we did both notice that it seemed more than usual, we were becoming overcome by the smell. Not just when it's cooking... but well, I don't want to get personal, but maybe someone's knows what I'm getting it. We both noticed it separately and felt like it was almost too much to even be normal... maybe it was just some really potent asparagus that our market was stocking!

I know exactly what you are talking about:speechless:
It's a common occurrence

I know what you mean - but apparently some people's urine smells after eating it and some people's don't. Its genetic I believe. A bit like some people finding that coriander tastes like soap!

Love fresh, green asparagus when in season.
Do NOT like its side-effect. MG is right, some people, IIRC about 25% of the populus, do not suffer with asparagus wee.
Do not like the rude shaped white asparagus, I think mostly sold in tins in Spain. (Or is this just where I first noticed the product?!)

the season is in full throw here now ,have picked some at the edge of the New forest ,have served it with a Hollandaise sauce poached egg and rocket salad with shaved Parmesan
