Before I sold everything I owned and went off to cycle (well try to cycle) around the world, I used to have an excellent baking sheet that was 2 layers with a thin layer of air between. It was ancient, but seriously effective and just great. I never washed it and it never stuck.

Can I find anything resembling it? No.
Every search I make for baking sheets either turns up something costing +£20 or something at £2 that is so thin it bends easily and is not worth considering...

Does anyone have any recommendations please? I'm specifically after a sheet, not a tray. It does not have to be dishwasher proof, we don't have one. But it must be a sheet and be available in the UK.

Thanks

Hi SNSSO.

Have you tried Lakeland? I shop there all the time. They specialise in kitchen and baking. There website is lakeland.co.uk. they have loads of baking trays. They also sell on amazon. Hope you find what your looking for.

How about an Air Bake cookie sheet? It sounds like the construction is just how you described, two pieces of metal sheet with a thin layer of air in the middle. I have ancient old cookie sheets too, but mine are of a cheap variety and I line them with parchment paper each time I bake something. I like the rustic well used look of them and so I have not invested in new sheets.

I've run into a bigger problem.

The new cooker was meant to have been 60cm wide but the one delivered was 50cm wife so the workmen just fitted that and didn't question it. The result is that standard baking sheets are too wide! My husband purchased one at the weekend that we thought meet out needs ( from Dunelm mills). It only fits into the oven side ways and only just leading no room for hot air to circulate. It is 34cm by 31cm which put bluntly is small only I need something smaller! My old one would have been fine but I no longer have it, so I have had to resort to a rather expensive one off Amazon. It was £20 excluding p&p  but it is 30cm by 26cm hard adonised single layer. It was all I could get that fitted the oven shelf! We will wait and see. :meh:

Lakeland have baking sheets and or trays of various sizes.
I had a good look at there website after you mentioned them yesterday and the only baking sheets they had were all too big and it is a sheet I'm after not a tray... which is making life interesting. They seem to be out of fashion!

£20 might seem like a lot of money to spend but if it lasts as well as your previous sheet and gives great results then it was probably worth it. Cheap baking sheets from Home Bargains etc. just don't cut it. They tend to warp and scratch too easily.

Thanks @winterybella it was through Amazon.co.uk that if finally found about the only sheet on there that will fit the oven. It is this one. www.amazon.co.uk/Mermaid-12-inch-Anodised-Baking-Sheet/dp/B0008EG3VS . It being 30 cm wide by 26cm deep.

I am glad you found something. I will look around locally and see what is available and what the price might be. Then I go on Ebay or Amazon and compare the prices and see if it makes sense to order online. I have to do that a lot these days. When I traveled more often I would pick up a lot of things and post them home. Most times it was much cheaper. These days everything is changing.

When I can get free shipping through Amazon, or a deal on shipping through eBay, it is much cheaper a lot of the time to order the item as opposed to purchasing it in the store. It is really hit or miss because sometimes the shipping costs are what get you in the end.

Ahhhhhhh.... It clearly stated a 12" 30cm tray... They have sent me one that is very clearly marked 14" (35cm).... I want to scream!

Mind you it's solid and certainly won't bend or flex at all. I like it bit I am left wondering if the oven is designed for something to use the entire shelf without any spaces down the sides :o_o:

That is a good question because the heat in the oven is supposed to circulate around I think so that you get even baking. Was the cookie sheet very expensive? You could always try a test bake on something inexpensive to make like short bread and see how they turn out.
