Recipe Beer can chicken - have you ever tried it?

My friend got all excited today, because somebody cooked chicken over a beer can on Saturday Kitchen today. She's going to try it over the weekend. Has anyone here ever tried it? Was it substantially different to chicken cooked in the conventional way?

While I would think it's OK to use an empty beer can to prop up your chicken for roasting, which might be were this method originated from, especially if you didn't have one of those vertical racks - just making one on the fly out of a can is practical. But to think that the beer is flavoring the meat in any way is more of a myth.
