Braised lettuce - what's it like?

I'm not a big fan of lettuce, but just lately I seem to be coming across lots of recipes that involve braising lettuce. I'm thinking of giving it a try, but I'm thinking if I don't like it as it is, will I like it any better when it's cooked?

What do you think? Anything useful to pass on?
 
I think I've seen recipes where lettuce is used as a wrapper, and then the thing is baked or similar, like an alternative to vine leaves. And I think I've seen one where lettuce was shredded and added to a stuffing, like sorrel.

Can't advise really, since I quite like it raw anyway....
