How many of you have made this before?

I do it for French Onion Soup!! :)

I have generally made caramalized onions to serve as an accompaniment to meat and cheese dishes. I use muscovado unrefined cane sugar rather than the normal a white refined sugar. It makes the onions more tasty and sticky without being too sweet.

I love making this and I put it on top of many things. My favorite use for it is for onion soup, but I also like using it for bread toppings. I usually just put it on top of a tomato or cheese or even ham, depending on what I have at that particular moment. I don't have a set formula on how I make it though, sometimes I use brown sugar, sometimes white, and sometimes I add butter and sometimes I don't.

My favorite way to cook onions and it's worth waiting for. I usually saute them with potatoes and mushrooms as a side or add them as a topping on a cottage pie or pasta bake. I also add them to a basic tomato sauce for flavor and texture or with eggplant when I bake them.
