Cast iron outdoor cooking

Does anyone here do any outdoor cooking with cast iron? We have a cast iron Dutch oven that we use to cook outdoors with when we are camping. Beef stew out of the cast iron is delicious!

Not that I've been for many years, but your version of camping seems totally different to mine - it doesn't involve an RV does it

Nor me... but then when I go camping I am usually on a bicycle!

Cast iron works great for camping, But on a bicycle you would have to limit which pieces you use. Keep the skillet handy for defense purposes.

Here in South-Africa that is quite a popular way to cook for large gatherings over weekend's, We usually use quite large cast iron pots which we then place over some burning coles. It's usually stew beef with a wide variety of veg and very saucy and it's served on rice, some us put the rice in the pot to cook in the sauce. It's a very tasty meal if made correctly and we call it 'Potjiekos' 'Potjie' means pot and 'kos' means food, the name comes from the afrikaans people here but many of the english people in RSA know how to speak it.
