I was going to call this thread 'cooking related OCDs, but thought that might be problematic as it suggests a medical condition. What I'm talking about here are obsessions or rituals you might have about how you prepare, cook, serve food. Or perhaps particular ways you shop for food or organise your cupboards, fridge etc.

Do tell!

My list when I shop has the items arranged in sequential order as I progress from the front to the back of the store. I also know which aisle side the items are closer to so I know whether to get them either going to the back or going to the front. This is a habit born of needing a hip replacement that took several years to fulfill so minimal walking was the objective.

That is a most sensible thing.

Many 'obsessions' are born of necessity.

(It's in my head until they change the store. 😉)
OK - you had me worried for a bit...
My list goes by aisles. Into the supermarket: aisle 1 fruit and veg, check list. Aisle 2; milk, cream, cheese, etc. Aisle 3: flour, rice, sugar, etc. (check list again)
Yep - I do what you do, and no GPS necessary.

For bricks and mortar shopping and not online, which I do a lot, the shopping list is on my phone and made in 2 steps - my need/want/buy list which is turned into a list of sections by shop or store where they will be bought, by location/aisle/counter/department. Sometimes the item may appear on more than one list (usually fresh stuff or produce) where quality might be a factor. I shop at at several locations.

As a proper shopping trip is a long drive it's attempt not to forget things which still happens a bit anyway 😅

When Craig had his accident and almost 6 week hospital stay back in 2020, I had a good bit of time on my hands. Ended up going through and cleaning out the refrigerator, finding 2 or 3 open jars of the same thing, plus a few long expired items. Same thing with pantry. I organized the refrigerator by putting things like olives, pickles, relishes in the same area, then salad dressings, Asian items, etc. I yell at Craig now when he doesn't put something back in the correct place.

Got baskets for the refrigerator freezers. Chicken and seafood go in one. Beef and pork in another. All the various types of flours are in one. Frozen fruit, coconut in one. Etc, etc.

Pantry same thing. All the pastas are in 2 bins. Asian noodles and rice in one. Vinegars and oils together. Asian non-perishables in one. Unopened canned stuff in one. Baking items like baking soda/powder, extracts, food coloring in one. Chocolate in one. Etc, etc.

I actually know where things are now and don't have to hunt for stuff, and don't buy duplicates or triplicate.

And, I actually label things now with date and name. Because I've learned that I WON'T remember what it is.

I get everything out and ready before I start cooking. Sounds sensible, but I live with someone who will walk in part way through and start putting things back into the cupboards and washing things that are "dirty". It is in quotes because I honestly am more than happy to use the same knife (unwashed between vegetables) to cut all of the veg up for that meal. I don't care that I put it down and picked something else up, I am still USING it and it really does NOT need to be washed between the carrots and the celery!
