Do you know the difference between a Herb and a Spice?

I'm not a botanist, but I imagine "solid" means "trunk". What do you think?
The rosemary bush/shrub/plant I just cut down (because it had been attacked by fungus) was pretty woody.

Well, far as I know a stem (be it solid or floppy) is usually what leaves (and fruit) grow attached to. As you say, rosemary can have a thick woody 'trunk' as well as woody stems. There are certainly other herbs like curry leaves which grow on woody stems.

Peppercorns are a spice. What is salt (a mineral, but it is in the spice category)?
