Do you take notes on your cookbooks?

if I find a recipe "we" like - from a book I like (or on-line or . . . .) - I create a simple .txt / text file on my computer with the ingredients and directions. as it evolves, it's easy to print out, make notes, annotate the computer file....
.txt format files live forever, other "apps" . . . . not so much.

as an aside, I've found it most necessary to include in the .txt file the source / url of the recipe.
<sigh,> ye olde' memory ain't what it used to be....

I keep a "master file" on my pc, copy that to a home-network drive, using a kitchen resident tablet for day to day look&cook.
- some discipline required; not workable for everyone.

I also have 6 pcs of 3x5 index card 'boxes' of family recipes - aunts, great aunts, grandmother, MIL, mother....
which I have scanned for digital preservation. it is indeed a lot of effort.

So I use the Edmonds cooking book for some stuff. It's about 40 plus years old, pages falling out etc. food stains etc. so I'm watching tv last night and wife just says, you know that book you use that's worn out, do you want a new one. She was using up her fly buy points up,and spotted it in a catalogue. I have a brand new one on its way. I won't throw the old one out as it has notes on it.
