Favourite comfort food

It rained, so....

My favorite comfort food on a rainy day would be anything featuring Gratin Dauphinois, a French oven bake of potatoes with cream and garlic and a bit of cheese if you're decadent.

Unfortunately it's pretty high calorie so I will have to keep it for special occasions. But I definitely think of this when I think of comfort food.

If it's not about a rainy day then Butter Chicken curry is also a very comforting favorite of mine, like a hug on a plate.

Many of my childhood meals.. stuff you guys wouldn't eat.
Pea pie n pud.
Savs and mash
Rissoles

Russ
I don't know what pea pie n pud is, or savs and mash? I can guess that peas are in a pie for the first one and mashed potatoes in the second. What's wrong with rissoles? I can't imagine why someone would not want to eat them.

I noticed you didn't mention tripe in parsley sauce... :D

I don't know what pea pie n pud
I believe it refers to a meat pie, peas, and mashed potatoes - nothing unusual about that at all here, pretty standard, even if we’d call it something different (pot pie with a side of peas and mashed potatoes)…but hey, I grew up where eating squirrels, rabbits, possums, and frogs was pretty common. Hell, I’ve eaten barbecued raccoon, and we used to fight over pigs’ ears as kids!

Yeah, meat pies of all kinds are welcome on my dinner table! And peas and mashed taters!
but hey, I grew up where eating squirrels, rabbits, possums,
How very Hillbilly!
and frogs was pretty common. Hell, I’ve eaten barbecued raccoon,
How very French!

I used to give massages to a group of Asian ladies when I lived in Florida that all used to bring food over, and my oh my, did they love their pigs ears! I tried it but I wasn't such a fan. The rice dishes and soups were good.

My OH's Italian grandmother and his aunts used to fight over boiled chicken feet. I never got that one, either.

Chicken feet…those were my paternal grandmom’s favorite!

There was such a difference between my maternal and paternal grandparents with respect to food and culture…Midwestern versus Southern.

I rech typing it lol..
Pea pie n pud is grandson eli. Fave meal.
Mince pie 🥧 pastry on outside. Dollop of mash spuds. Tablespoon of peas then 2 slices beetroot and topped with a slice of onion. We get a family pie here approx 300ml diameter. I cut in half. One half is enough for me and the wife. Served with tomato sauce and Worcester sauce.
Savs are spicy sausage died red called saveloys. Available in smoked also.

Not a fan of beets but the rest sounds good. Well I don't love Worcestershire sauce, but it's not horrible.

We have bright reds here…specialty of where my wife is from (upstate NY):

Glazier Meats

They’re sometimes called red rockets or red hots.

Wow Marketed here as saveloys and sold in aussie as battered sausages in fish n chip shops. Or small approx 2 inch called little boys.
