Favourite dish beginning with..

Haring, herring. That raw one that you eat by just holding the fish at the tail, like this

Ooh that's a good one. I also love those! They just don't travel well though so I think you just can't get them unless you go to the Netherlands. Would be delighted to be proven wrong; maybe there's some good ones that come in jars?

They sell them frozen at schiphol airport, to take with you.
But that doesn't help you much ;)
Gotta get in with the Dutch crowd and get an invite for King's day. Haring will be served (flown in especially for the event, you got a bit over a month to secure your invite :hyper: )

I actually did buy them at the airport last time I was in Amsterdam (must have been about 10ish years ago). They were frozen, packaged in polystyrene boxes and only really good for grilling when I got them home all defrosted. It wasn't quite the same... ah well. I should consider a return trip.

Haupia - this is a coconut pudding in a way. It's got a bit of cornstarch to stiffen it up; very nice in a pie, more specifically Chocolate Haupia Pie from Ted's Bakery on Oahu Hawaii. I tried to make this just by winging it and that didn't come out well, but I see now loads of copycat recipes online. I'll need to get it another go.
