I've been having terrible problems with my digestive system the past few months, though its never been great. I've had tests and now have been advised to follow the FODMAP elimination diet. The diet is to do with "short-chain carbohydrates that are poorly absorbed in the small intestine and ferment in the colon".

It's quite a restrictive diet for 6 weeks, then reintroduction for 6 weeks to see what type of foods trigger problems. I'm sceptical, but also desperate! I'll try to post recipes to help anyone else who needs to do the diet.

Good luck with the diet. Its worth a try if you are desperate. Many people assume gluten is the issue with digestive issues . Have you tried cutting that out?

I do know of someone who lives by it and has done for 15 years i think it is now. Certainly before we went off to cycle around the world. My husband's ex-work wife (running joke).

She did find it what she could and could not have and it has helped her considerably. Best of luck.

Yes, I've tried, but it does not seem to help. My husband can't have gluten. He's not celiac, but has an allergy that is so sensitive, we can't have anything with gluten in it in the house. I do make sure I eat gluten when I'm out of the house, as I'm aware one can develop a sensitivity.

Having said that, gluten is eliminated for the first six weeks of this diet and I will be doing the reintroduction, so I can be certain.

Well its only been a few days and I've made so many mistakes. It's so complicated. I think I've figured out my menu for the coming week.
Breakfast: porridge or overnight oats, with blueberries and coconut yoghurt.

Lunch:
Stirfry veg (from low fodmap vegetables including beansprouts) flavoured with ginger and tamari. Egg fried quinoa w I th a bit of sesame oil (rice is allowed on this diet, but I'm allergic). Tofu or fish
Fritata with rocket salad.
Jacket potato (but don't eat the skin) with vegan cream cheese or tuna mayo. Watercress salad.

I'm going to devise a curry and think what else i can do.

Supper: soup and cornbread (My first cornbread wasn't great, so I need to practice, and also need to research what soups I can make. I think carrot and corriander would be OK.)

We’re looking at this right now for MrsT - and yes, it’s complex to get right. Most things like this, the advocates usually say how easy it is, just to keep from discouraging people, but both MrsT’s doc and every website we’ve seen says it’s not something to enter into lightly, and it needs constant management under the direction of a registered dietitian.

It would make far more sense to have it managed under a dietician. I've just been given a leaflet and told to get on with it, and that was by a private gastroenterologist. The monash app seems to be the most useful resource.

You will be thin as a rake on that diet! Its curious; why can't you eat the skin on the jacket potato?

Sorry. I am not really helping. However, one thing I am quite good at is invention tests... so if you tell me the ingredients you are allowed I could suggest some curry ideas. Are spices allowed?
