Guilty pleasures

Another Guilty Pleasure of mine is a Pot Noodle! In particular I love the Chicken and Mushroom flavoured one.

Pot noodles have a bad press but in fact they can be quite nutritious. My problem with them is that quite a lot of them use MSG which I can taste a mile off and dislike.

In the USA most brands aren't healthy, and they have a ton of sodium and some have a lot of fat.

There are too many "foods" in the US that are mostly just carbs, fat, and salt. Mostly feeds the Healthcare conglomerate.

My pleasure would be these discounted boxes at the day old store...

As almost anyone who has Indonesian blood, I love me some

Preferably with some furikake (Japanese seasoning) and an egg. Not too often, but I like it very much.

1/16th Indonesian here!

Indomie are very popular in Singapore and I think might be the #1 Indo brand.

I also like these and will be frying some up later:

Big fan of Pot Noodles since I was a kid. I read a stat not that long ago that they are manufactured in Wales to the tune of over 150 million pots a year!

I've always loved Chicken & Mushroom and I think it remains my fave too, with Beef & Tomato a close second.

I haven't really taken to the 'new' flavours that much (the Doner Kebab one is downright rancid in taste) but of that crop the Piri-Piri isn't too bad.

Bit shocked to see 'only' £1.49 on the side. That's inflation for you. They were £1.20 not that long ago, but Tesco/Sainsburys alternate in having offers and I think last year I picked up loads for 65p and brought them back here.

I’d love to be able to eat noodle cups. They make great pannier pantry emergency food.
Itsu makes some with rice noodles which are mainly a watery broth and noodles with a very small amount of freeze dried veg. Apart from the salt they’re relatively healthy but not filling.

There’s another brand called ‘Naked’ that do pot rices and they’re not the best but they’re not the worse either. Plenty of calories in those little pots.
I find I can make up for their short comings by adding either curry powder or paprika and some soy sauce.

Or you could make your own.

I do. Remember the kettle cooking thread? At the same time I did flask food, I dehydrated loads of veggies and vacuum sealed them with rice noodles. They were all my own ‘pot noodles’ 👍

But I’ll be honest before going wandering for a few weeks you really have an awful lot to sort out and back up emergency pannier food (that may not get eaten) isn’t that high on the priority list.

Don’t think I reported those results but they were tastier better than a normal pot noodle.
