Serves: 4 | Preparation time: 25 mins | Cooking time: 20 mins

  • Ready-rolled puff pastry: 1
  • Eggs: 1
  • Cinnamon: 1 tbsp
  • Maple syrup: 1 tbsp
  • Icing sugar: as needed

Method

Pre-heat the oven to 180°C.

Roll out the puff pastry sheet and prick it all over with a fork; this will allow moisture to escape the pastry when you bake it, and the puff pastry won’t swell. Cut out some discs of puff pastry using a glass or a pastry cutter.

With a small knife, carve a scary face into each disc: evil eyes, pointy fangs, or whatever you can come up with!

Place the faces onto an oven tray lined with baking paper.

Beat up the egg and brush it over each scary face. Sprinkle the scary faces with a bit of maple syrup. Bake to 180°C for about 20 minutes.

Take the scary faces out of the oven as soon as the puff pastry turns golden and is cooked through. Garnish them with some cinnamon and icing sugar right before serving them.
