Can opener..jpg

We used to use it when we were all home!!

Oh yes. This was like the one we had when I was a kid. Its quite hard to use. In the TV programme 'Back in Time for Dinner, which I mentioned in another thread, when the family went back in time to the 50's, they couldn't figure out how to use it!

It can be quite dangerous if you are not careful!! It could slip of the can & puncture your hand!!
I'm not sure if they even make it any more!! :headshake::stop:

They're still made and coming back in popularity.
Question,
When using it, do you pierce the lid or do you pierce the side of the can?

Were you also in army as well as classical chef training? Blimey! If so, you must be so-oo disciplined!
1984 St Omer barracks when the Army Catering corps was the real deal ,and 12 years ACC and RLC specialist catering unit CVHQ,traveled all over the place in this part time role desert ,snow ,and up to my knees in mud

I don't think I've used this kind myself, but I've seen it used so I think I can figure it out. It's one of the more compact can openers, so good for travel and camping. I prefer the slightly larger ones with the little crank. I think they are easier and safer.

I prefer to puncture the lid. It allows me to make a safer tin for re-use (usually just for left overs or waste) but also allows me to put the 'dangerous' lid inside the tin and the tin be a touch safer... but I did experiment for a number of years doing the tin and went back to doing the lid instead.

View attachment 959 how about one of these ,there is a real nack to using one
Oh yes... a real knack. I prefer the one on my swiss army knife to be honest and there is a knack to that one as well!
