With the old software, if you wished to hotlink an image you could use this option:

39828

Which would then present you with this:

39829

The URL entered would hotlink to the image addressed and thereafter update the image as and when the source was updated.

Since the change to the new software, the image is transferred from the original source as a file on the Cookingbites server and therefore does not update if the source is updated.

39830

39831

Is this an intended change or is there a fault?

Or am I doing something wrong?

This wasn't actually a change that came in with the new software, but came in with the change over from http to https. In order to maintain the https on any page with a linked image, we needed to copy the image and save it locally (re-scaled to CB image heights). Keeping it as a linked image actually broke the https when it was linked to a site that wasn't secure (https).
It does helpfully get around one problem that is much more common, and that is that often old linked images no longer display because they have been deleted or moved without the link being updated, but does unfortunately mean that you'll need to edit the image here (edit the post and just delete them re-add the image) if you make changes to it and want them reflected here.

Sadly we can't set it to only do it if it isn't a secure site that the image is hosted on. It's an all or nothing job.

OK, I understand (surprisingly). I have already tried the editing and updating the link method and it works. Thank you.
