How do I make homemade peeps?

Hello! I can't help but noticing that I have a bunch of the things that I would probably need for peeps, like food coloring and large gushy marshmallows, regular sugar, and powdered sugar. Does anyone know how to make at the very least 'unshaped' peeps? My dad's wife absolutely adores them and I'd like to make some homemade ones for her for Mother's Day.

thank you for the wonderful reference on how to make the homemade peeps. Unfortunately, we went strawberry picking yesterday and I didn't get much if any time to do any of the peeps. Instead, I made her a strawberry short cake but I plan on making her the peeps as a surprise later this week. I've never heard of 'blooming' anything except flowers so this will be an interesting experience.
