I've lived in two countries, the Netherlands (middle is where I was born, moved to the south of NL in 2018). Lived in England for a year (and have been there 13 times for a holiday) in the North, in the East riding of Yorkshire in a sleepy village called Market Weighton. It's on the road between Hull and York. I lived on York road.
Countries I have visited:
1) Portugal. My first holiday ever, I was 3 years old. I only remember eating chocolates on the beach and petting some cats on our hotel balcony.
2) France. Many regions. I've been to Paris, Nice, Ardeche, Orleans, Provence, Reims, Elzas, Burgundy, Normandy, Lille, Cote de azur and probably a few I am forgetting. I loved the French bread, it's still my favorite bread. Baguettes can really be out of this world! And of course the food is glorious anyway. My favorite dish is however pretty ordinary, steak frites with a really good pepper sauce still does it for me. I think my love for liver pate also comes from the many holidays in France.
3). Greece. I have visited Samos twice (an island very near the border with Turkey), and really loved the kind hospitality of the Greeks. I also loved the fresh fish. One of my best memories from there is eating a fish that was freshly caught just an hour earlier. Just from the barbecue with lemon and garlic, delicious! And of course loukmades, a Greek doughnut dipped in honey. Our holiday landlady gave us some when we came in, also delicious.
4). England. I've been to London, Bath, Perth, Norwich, Plymounth, Weymouth, Leicester, Liverpool, Manchester, Newcastle, Leeds, Birmingham, Hull, York and Southend. What can I say? I love the country, so beautiful. My favorite British food is the classic sunday roast Chicken with all the trimmings, and dessert must be Eton Mess. Can't pass by a good scone either! Unfortunately I couldn't keep living there because my ex was abusive. But that has never ended my love for England.
5). Germany. I have been to Koln, Munich, Aken, Dusseldorf, Kleve. I want to see much more. My favorite German food so far is Geschnetzeltes (chopped pork fillet with cream sauce) and Berliner (doughnuts filled with custard or jam) and pretzels with obazda (a beer garden cheese).
6). Belgium : I have been to Antwerp, Brussels, Liege, Knokke, West-Vlaanderen, The ardennen mountains. I love a Belgian rabbit stew and I love their varieties of speculaas biscuits. I also love their prawn and cheese croquettes.
7). Finland. I've been to Tampere for a week and had a blast, have never been in a city with water so clear you could see through it before! And I heard wolves at night. It was beautiful. I definitely have Scandinavia on my wishlist, our plan is to travel to Denmark next year.
Wishlist?
Not that big, but currently topped by a dream of going on a cruise to the North cape, which is at the top of Norway. To see the Northern lights! My husband is on board, so who knows!
It's also not that big because travel outside of Europe seems risky to me with my permanent ostomy bag, I don't know if corrupt officials might accuse me of drug smuggling just because I am an easy target. I'd rather not have to explain why I am carrying a bag stuck to my abdomen to an overworked officer that doesn't speak my language. In the EU at least I know I am protected by the same laws that are valid in my own country.
