I must have miscalculated on my last grocery shop, because I'm out of butter. A rare thing for me. Anyway. I know that margarine can be used as an alternative, but I don't have that either. I was thinking, and the closest thing I have on hand is that fake butter you use when making your own popcorn. I wonder how this might work as a substitute (assuming I get the ratios right). My test was going to be a box of instant stuffing, so I don't think it would ruin the flavor, per se. I would just have to try to get it right, and it might work. I don't want it to taste like popcorn either. I'm not even sure, but I might be able to make the stuffing without butter at all. It would lose some flavor from not having butter, and maybe a bit of body, because that's what butter does. I might even be able to get away with just a bit of neutral oil. What do you think?
