IKEA - love it or hate it?

Buying, in general.
But...I don't want to buy anything from IKEA. Does IKEA even have food other than their meatballs? Honestly, I am not even tempted about the meatballs, I just want to see the layout of the place and I am not interested in buying their cookie cutter furniture. I do have restraint enough to not spend a ton at Jungle Jim's (maybe), LOL!

I love IKEA. It serves a purpose of offering reasonably-priced furniture for people on a budget, or for those who need something with utility but don't care what it looks like or what brand is stamped on it like a toilet brush, or a shoe rack, or storage boxes, or something for the kids to use that you don't care gets trashed. I went there many times since my student days in the UK and Singapore has two outlets one of which is near me and I drop in from time to time for basic no frills things. I still have many IKEA items in use round my house.

Yes I do buy the meatballs, Lingonberry jam and other Swedish foodstuffs when I go there and the recipe they gave for the meatballs (and the sauce) works great!

I was totally ignorant to the fact that they carry useful things like toilet brushes and storage boxes! See Barriehie, it might be an eye opening experience

Yeah, usually if I buy something there, it’s from their kitchenwares department. It’s very large and a lot of the stuff is quirky…or very plain-functional. I like both.

I’ll also usually something from the (small) food section - the little ginger biscuits, the jams, some chocolates.

What I like just as much, though, is just walking through their display kitchens…I don’t know the exact number, but somewhere around 20 fully-equipped kitchens to walk through, and they’ve all got clever little storage features and hidden things - it’s a playground if you like kitchens.

The food upstairs…usually, I just get tea and cake, but in addition to the meatballs, they usually offer some other main item, like a vegetarian lasagna or something, but it’s not a big menu at all. They also sell hot dogs downstairs.

A little personal connection to the IKEA here - my SIL was the cafeterias manager for the local school district, and when IKEA showed up, she applied and got the job to oversee the store’s food operation - a step down in responsibility, but a step up in money.

That’s how she was diagnosed with (terminal) cancer…she had to have an in-depth physical since she was to be around food, and it popped up on that. She never lived to see the opening.

I'm a bit in 2 ways about ikea.
Mind you, the last time I was there is more than 30 years ago
I do like their stuff, mostly straight forward wood. Totally dislike the instructions.
But the worst part was the amount of people in the shop, just too busy and the loudspeaker constantly going " can the parents of (fancy modern name kid) please collect their son/daughter from the ball game".
Got very irritating after the 10th time.
