how it affects current users?

"you don't have authority to reply here" or some such idiocy akin to that.

any ten year old knows how to click "I'm old enough"
any 8 year old know how to enter a bogus birth date.

you'll need to demand people use their real first-middle-last names, none of that "user" stuff,
and provide a certified copy of their passport/ID/birth certificate.

yeah, it's that ridiculous.

She closed the thread, that's why "you don't have authority to reply here" shows.

Florida just started doing the same. Social media companies and parents can be fined, a lot. I don't have any young relatives, but, if I remember correctly, under a certain age can't have a social media account at all, then an age range where parents have to give permission, then up from there you can have whatever.
 
no need for verifiable ID - just an age. that's all I am asking for and the thread went into an area of the forum that wasn't for general discussion, hence not being able to reply to it. It has nothing to do with your age. It is the same place that I make announcements, nothing more

The choice is simple. Australia has made it law that all social media platforms implement age restrictions. Other states and countries will follow suit. There is no requirement for me to see your passport or birth certificate and if there were, I would be walking away from the forum. But all forums are classed as social media platforms and unless it is implemented, the site could be closed down and I could be given a 7 or 8 figure fine. It does not matter that you are in the USA or that others are in the UK. It only matters that an Australian child could try to sign up to the site.

And the thread being closed to replies was because it is the law. It is not up for debate and I have to apply it. end of discussion from my point of view.

Personally, I would hope you would accept it and help me out (as the owner of the site) by not complaining and filling it in, to help protect me.
 
Me too, did it straight away.
I do have some minor reservations about displaying it on my profile because I have experienced a lunatic using forum information to track down precisely who I am, where I live, what our business does.
It was scary so as it is an option here I simply disabled it from view.
I think I did anyway, better check that 😂

Thank you. I took have experienced a stalker. Sadly a member of my family, though I don't regard him as such.

These are you current privacy settings. So the day and month will be visible, but not the year.

Ah thanks. I think I’d rather not have any of my DOB showing if thats ok.
I think determined stalkers will get there in the end anyway but I don’t want to make it easy for the loons 😂
