Vegetarian diets are strict limiting the consumption of various foods and drink. Is wine a beverage that can be incorporated into a vegetarian diet? If so, what are the guidelines? If not, why not?

Not always. The problem is what is used to filter any alcohol. Often it is filtered through the swim bladders of fish (which is what makes it not-veggie friendly) known as isinglass or through gelatine based products (from pork etc). https://www.cookingbites.com/threads/foods-drinks-vegetarians-should-avoid.987/ is a thread I have put together for vegetarians. In the UK we have a society that lists which wines and beers are vegan friendly. http://www.vegansociety.com/lifestyle/food/drinks/

there is also this site which looks interesting, though because I don't actually drink, I have not looked through it in detail http://www.veggiewines.co.uk/

As SatNavSaysStraightOn said, sometimes animal products may be used to produce wine. In addition what the sites she recommended, you may also check barnivore, a site that has an updated list of drinks you may drink. http://www.barnivore.com/

Well here it is! I just learned my "something new" for today! Thanks because I sure did NOT know that wine was filtered through gelatine based products. I have not eaten pork or pork by products my choice for over 12 years now. And I will know do my research before selecting a wine to drink! Thanks again!
