Yucca root is used as a saponin in these parts. Never used it myself but this recipe is quite interesting - making yucca soap, which according to this, is gentle

until you meet the problem of the caustic soda eating through the metal bucket you have just used because it was the wrong metal - or the plastic bucket turns out not to be heat proof.

Also (and ironically this is what my uncompleted PhD was in, surfactants), soap and caustic soda are incredibly harmful to the skin. Surfactants undergo massive dilution and cleaning commerically to make them even vaguely friendly to skin, as I am sure you are aware.

I thought a stainless steel pot was alright to use.
Not that I know anything much about it, apart from aluminium is a no, and I think another metal like brass or copper

Glass would be the optimum container to avoid molecular interaction. Stainless steel isn't 100% noninteractive with chemicals it's just really minimally so. I think given SatNavSaysStraightOn immune response sensitivity, guessing it's high, glass would be her only option for a favorable product yield.
