I've just bought another bunch of baking/cookery books - you can never have too many!! One of the baking books had some rather yummy ice cream recipes, one of which is a Matcha Green Tea Ice Cream recipe. I've seen matcha green tea used in some baking recipes - particularly when mixed with chocolate, but I don't recall coming across this as an ice cream flavour. Anyone ever tried it before?
The author also had an interesting tip for keeping homemade ice cream from getting too hard - the addition of 1-2 tablespoons of vodka! You don't taste it in the recipe, but the alcohol won't freeze, so it acts to keep the ice cream from becoming rock hard. I often make ice cream that's so hard I have to wait 20 minutes before serving it.
If anyone is interested I'll share the recipe.
