It looks like Minute Maid's iconic frozen OJ will be going the way of the dodo bird in the first quarter of this year, at least in the US and Canada. I prefer fresh, but when you want some OJ on a Saturday morning and find you're out, it's always been nice to pull one from the freezer instead of running to the store. In preparation, I just brought home 6 more cans from the grocery store to throw in the freezer and will pick up more over the next couple of months to lay back a few year's worth, at least.

Minute Maid Frozen OJ No More

My first thought when I saw that was "well, there goes a lot of punch recipes." Then thought not a lot of people probably make punch anymore. Punch was served at nearly every bridal or baby shower, most weddings, birthday parties, church get togethers, etc., in the south when I was growing up in 60s and 70s. Orange and lime sherbet were used in a lot of punch recipes as well.

I’m assuming other brands will still be available? I haven’t read the article yet.

I thought the same thing, especially kids’ punch. When I made punch over Thanksgiving, I included a non-boozy one for the kids, and I believe I had a tube of that stuff in there.

There are others. Essential Everyday also makes frozen OJ, and possibly others. I buy I a lot of cheaper Essential Everyday and store brand food stuffs, but orange juice isn't one of them. They're not as good. This also applies to Minute Maid's frozen lemonade, limeade, pink lemonade, and raspberry lemonade.

I think this is one of those "across the ocean" things. Having grown up in the UK and now living in Australia, I have never ever come across frozen orange juice - or any fruit juice for that matter. Just seems weird to me. That said, the supermarkets here have just launched frozen lemon or lime juice in ice-cube-sized blocks for ease of use. I just make my own when I finally need to pick the lemons off the tree, though I did "buy" some frozen lime juice when they were free a while back. But there was way too much plastic in use for my liking, so I have not subsequently repeated the purchase.
