Need a new fridge. Need advice.

We bought this GE model two years ago and I love it. I love the ice maker in drawer vs dispenser on the outside of the door. The water pitcher inside the door has a sensor that automatically refills the pitcher once the door closes. Previously had a Samsung with ice /water dispenser on the outside of the doors and I hated it. The ice dispenser would stop / jam frequently and it was a pain to replace the water filter. My experience only, YMMV. Good luck, it can be overwhelming with all the choices.

Okay, my refrigerator is ordered. I selected a delivery date of 7/21 because we can live with just using our portable ice maker until then, and it gives me more time to deal with removing photos and such from the refrigerator, cleaning out from behind it, cleaning an adjacent shelf above the pantry, etc. The earliest delivery date was 7/19 but we have a party to go to that day, so this works out just fine!

Yeah!!! I'm glad for you. 👍

You can put extra trotters in the extra space! 😁

Well last night I accidentally fixed the crushed ice selector button that had gotten pushed in and wasn't working. For a few days, we were only able to select cubed and water from the selector panel. DH asked me how I did it, and I really don't know, I was just fiddling with it with a paring knife and a chopstick. So we have crushed ice. He was amazed and happy, told me I am a genius, LMAO. I explained it was a fluke. He can attribute my cooking to genius if he likes, but appliance repair is not my thing, LOL.

Our old ice maker won't stay stabalized and attached, it tilts slightly, so when it fills with water, the water drips into the bin and clumps all of the ice in the bin. DH would set her upright and make sure she was attached properly, and she would tilt slightly within the day. For days DH wasn't listening to me and he would take out the ice bin, loosen it all up, take large clumps out, and then as she made ice, she would spill water all over the cubes and it would happen all over again. My suggestion was to lift the arm to turn her off and use the portable ice maker to fill the bin and not let her make ice anymore. Last night he finally listened, and now no clumped ice. It only takes about 3 hours for our portable ice maker to fill up the bin and it's no hardship to do it. I bought that little portable ice maker from Walmart last year for about $70 and it's been great!

Looking forward to the end of the month when our new refrigerator will arrive. It's going to be tricky for them to get it in the house (might have to take off the door) but it will fit through the hall and other spaces, and it's going on a wall with nothing above it and only a moveable wine cabinet next to it and the pantry closet on the other side. I am dreaming of neatly placed containers and a semi-full refrigerator that still has plenty of space in it...

msmofet how are you liking your new refrigerator?

We have a well. Since we don't pay for water, just the electricity to pump it, I'm okay with the cost of the filters.
our GE takes a RPWFE filter, at an outrageous cost . . . . and once the filter 'timed out' the GE would not continue to function without a 'real' OEM filter. . . .
and seems the GE works on "hours/days" . . . like . . . if you never used ice, it would still demand a new filter on a regular basis.
the ultimate rip off . . .

eventually I installed a 'whole kitchen' filter. then I bought generic filters and installed the by-pass dummy filter.

before that, I cut the "chip" out of an OEM filter label and taped it to a generic filter so that - when installed - the chip was "read" by the fridge itself.... hit the reset button, and all was right in the GE world . . .

I want filtered water. Our well water doesn't taste bad, but I can taste the minerals at times and would prefer not to. I really don't mind the cost of the filters.

Mine is a GE too and it takes the same filter. I tried removing the wifi thing from the old filter and it still didn't work. The bypass/dummy filter works great.

The only thing that's a bummer is the Maytag uses a different filter than the Samsung and I have 3 Maytag unused filters in my pantry. When we move the Maytag to the garage it will not have a water hookup.
