As much as I really like sweet things and cold things, obtaining an ice cream maker is very low on my list of priorities even for kitchen stuff in general.

That's just fine, because I just really like having popsicle molds. Even an ice cube tray filled with fruit juice, covered with tin foil, with toothpicks stuck in for mini-popsicle sticks would do. Frozen juices (or even frozen coffees and teas) are quick and simple, sweet, and cold--just as these treats should be. Actual fruit that's pureed and frozen, or added in chunks to an iced-until-frozen tea or juice popsicle, can be just as good.

I also have come across a couple of videos to ice that cream without an ice cream maker! Here's a milky sea salt flavor, out of the video game Kingdom Hearts:

And here's one that doesn't even use egg. It's a simple chocolate-covered vanilla ice cream, like a Magnum bar except thrifty and simple:

That's gotten me wondering... what does an ice cream maker even do?
