That should work. It encompasses the idea. I can't tell from the pic but is it up off the bottom? Need at least a couple of cm.

Going to need a heat absorber in the pan otherwise it'll heat up like all the rest and it won't work. Water should work. 👍

But isn't it just a question of moving the rack up and down into a higher or lower position during cooking?
(Unless wanting to cook 2 dishes at the same time that is 🤔) Or am I missing something 😬

It's not that as that would be very simple.
There is only bottom heat....
So browning the top is tricky...
In all positions in the stove

Mod.edit: this post and following few moved from A dish you want to excel at but haven’t yet?

I wish I would get the hang of my gas ostove with only bottom heat!
Browning top layer without burning the bottom seems impossible

Per badjak's original post,☝️, we need the heat to be applied to the top of the dish, hence the airflow/heat diversion.

A friend of mine keeps this thermometer in his oven. The oven is old & if you judge it by the knob, you'll get a wrong temp. so we have to judge it by the thermometer on the inside & tweak the knob to ge it at or near the temp inside. I have one also, but the stove is fairly new, so I don't have to do that. :whistling:

Yeah I got one and is really helpful with a gas oven that only has markings for "high" and "low"
But that doesn't help with the issue I have of top browning

When I have sometime to go shopping, I will replace my oven. When is the best time or month to shop for appliances?
I said to do it last year but with all my time spending helping my sister and her house it didn’t get done.
