This is that nice gal from Maui Hawaii, Relle Lum, who was on The Great American Recipe on PBS.

DUDE!!!
Those tasted soooooooo much like the "OG" Leonard's Bakery in Hawaii!
This recipe makes 24 (+1) donuts, so maybe next go-around I'll do a half batch.
I shared a half dozen each with three of my Neighborhood Gal Pal's homes.
They'd never had Malasadas before and loved them.
I hand delivered each batch fresh and still piping hot in brown paper bags, that's how we use to get them back in the day.
With each hand-delivery I said, "please eat these while they're still warm, they taste better that way" and scurried back home to make the next batch.

Barriehie my Malasadas weren't anywhere near to the size of Leonard's!
That plate that my donuts are on is a saucer dish...
I still have another 7 Malasadas to fry off, I'm holding them in the fridge til the morning.
Did I say that I can't wait to go back home?

I do have to admit that I made a batch of Malasada dough early this morning and had to pitch it out ... kitchen fail.
I forgot to add the sugar to the dough

Fried bread! It's everywhere.

Sidenote: Many people think the native Americans here traditionally ate fried bread but that's not true. Only when they were relocated to a place without bounty and were issued govt flour did fried bread enter their realm. Think Indian Removal Act of 1830.
