Pig roast

I want to do a pig roast for my birthday, in a couple of months, but I have never done one before. From what I have been told I only need a pig, salt and a rotating split. Have you done one before? Any advice?
 
I have never roasted a pig. I have eaten it though while living in Puerto Rico. Pig roasts are very popular there.

Thanks for your reply. That is exactly what I had in mind; I want to be that guy in the picture. If I am successful, I will post a pic :)
