Plans for today (2025)

Questions: How serious a heart attack? Somerset or Spain? Has he had one before? DM me if you don’t want to post here.
Well done for getting him to stay. If in England, cardiologists can be really uncommunicative. Especially when the patient wants to go home. ( of course he does!) I have too much experience with heart attacks.
SSOAP's dad lives in the UK. SSOAP used to be a nurse.

My plans have taken a swift turn about.
My Dad text to say he's in hospital, he had a heart attack 3 days ago and didn't want to be a bother but he could do with clean clothes and the neighbours been very nice but it seemed an imposition 🙄
Also that he's had enough and feels fine so was thinking of doing a two finger salute and leaving 🙄
So I've booked the first available flight home tomorrow morning.

I sent him a text about being at high risk of a stroke until the heart stuff is sorted and he's not the sort of person who want's help to wipe his bum so just grin and bear it.
He appreciates honest language and said "In that case I'll swallow ever pill they offer" 😂
Phew.

Better go pack!
Speedy recovery to your dad! So typical of that generation to not want to burden us by telling us pretty important health details. I know you will keep us posted. Safe travels xo

All packed up and ready to go! 👍

Thanks, appreciated 😊
Yes it is very much like that gen. I've already been told to say nothing to my brothers 🙄
I can't not say something though can I?!! But I'll wait til I'm home so he can at least feel secure telling them they don't need to come.

I don't know the seriousness, I only have my Pa's scaled down version that they're making a fuss.
But if they don't want him to leave that means he's not stable, if they could discharge him into GP care they would, if only to free up a bed.

As Jas said I was a nurse (left in 2018) and it isn't just cardiologists that can be uncommunicative. A lot of staff don't have the time, the language or the inclination to explain things in layman terms. Sadly that often leaves the patient quite in the dark.

So true.
If you do have any worries. My dad, boyfriend’s uncle and I all had a heart attack caused by two left arteries being completely blocked. ( we all survived it too, btw sez the ghost 👻) but not without help. I just started rehab, group thing, it’s great! And testing the waters based on what I saw from Dad. So yeah, if you want to talk. It throws you! I’d say having a heart attack is the closest thing to childbirth. I’ve never had one but I’ve seen it 3 times and my sister is descriptive.
TC really hope he’s okay. Xxx

Yeah, I thankfully have not had one, but my oldest brother has had bypass surgery twice in a span of 20 years plus stents after having heart attacks, a close friend of mine from when I lived in Florida had a heart attack and bypass surgery, and my FIL had bypass surgery after they were unable to put in a stent. And I know more people as well, these are just the ones who are closest to me. It's scary stuff.

Yeah, your brothers would be riled a bit about that I imagine. Dad will just have to get over it. But good on you to wait until you get there. I would hope that they would want to come to see him anyway, and even if he protests, I imagine he might be salty if they know and don't.

SandwichShortOfAPicnic - safe travels tomorrow, and good luck to your dad. May you find him compliant and making a good recovery.

My folks never would tell anyone anything about their health. I’m all for privacy and I understand that (I can be that way myself with some things), but I like health stuff to be shared and wide-open among family, if only for purely selfish reasons - it can be an indicator of my own health issues down the road.

Even my brothers are like that. I’m the only over-sharer.

MrsT had a heart attack (“cardiac event,” pardon me  ) back in 2019, when she was away from home for work, and I had to move Hell and Earth to get there (Hell was easier, because I know a lot of people there in management…and they’re holding a spot for me  ), and the first thing she said when I got there was to apologize for being a bother… “I couldn’t think of anyone else to call.” 🤦🏻‍♂️

Have you ever used gram (chickpea flour) ? Neighbour uses it a lot.
Besan flour? I use it all the time, but I have to import it, so I make sure it's only for "personal" use.
Proper pakoras (bhajis over there!) have to have besan flour, otherwise they're no good, but since this is for a Venezuelan audience, I have to use what is available.

Damn - what a nuisance.
Never mind. It's just one of those things that happen.
