Plans for today (2025)

...
I have to make an Aldi run later this afternoon/early evening and two other stops. I also need to clean the bathrooms, but the bathrooms can probably wait until tomorrow. It's extremely hot here today so might not feel like doing much when I get back from shopping.

Your weather is like mine right now. I went to the mailbox just now and that's enough outside until the sun goes down! 🥵

And...it's raining. Which is great because it cooled down about 10 degrees. I will be making my Aldi run in about 30 minutes or so. It's a good time to go on a Saturday because most people are home making dinner and it's easier to shop when not crowded. Gotta pick up my prescriptions, too, and stop at Dollar General for Cokes that are on sale. Aldi, the pharmacy, and DG are all within 6 miles of home so easy peasy.

I was looking at the sales ad for a healthy foods market (Fresh Thyme) that is generally a little pricey and found that they have 18 count free range eggs for $3.99 and they have skinless boneless chicken breasts for $1.99 lb (really great price for the quality at this store). That sale ends Tuesday. I was thinking about going today but just not into traveling. That store is about 15 miles south of where I live, which isn't that far, really. But tomorrow night DH and I are going to Carrabba's for dinner (I have a $10 rewards discount plus a gift certificate) and it's about a mile from that grocery store, so maybe I will put a cooler and ice packs in the car and stop there before we go to dinner instead of going today. That price on the chicken only happens about 2x a year at various stores but none of the other grocery stores have quite the quality of Fresh Thyme. So time to stock up! I guess my freezers are getting some new additions after all!

When I go to Aldi I'm waiting for them to unlock the doors, no lines for me.
I have sort of a different approach - as much as I gripe about my job, I more or less set my own schedule, so 99% of the time when I’m in a grocery store, that’s my bliss, so I go in there with the mindset that I’m not in a hurry, and I love the world when I’m in there.

I just got back from Aldi, and I didn’t even have that much stuff (less than $40US), but I was tickled to let a couple of visiting women in front of me (I know they were visiting because they mentioned they were staying at the hotel just across the street) because they had just a few things (chips, dip, wine…my kind of folks  ), and we ended up having a good ol’ chat - and believe me, I’ve had the day from hell today with work, but the grocery store(s) straightened me right out.

That doesn’t always work, but usually it does. Grocery stores put me in a good mood.

Yeah, that would involve me getting up early, having tea, coffee, getting showered, doing my hair, etc. which can take a few hours easily. I need my beauty sleep! Plus my pharmacy would likely not have been open yet that early.

And when I went to Aldi there were lots of parking spaces close to the cart area, and at the register there was just 1 person in line ahead of me who only had about 10 things to ring up, so I am not complaining. I had a pretty nice shopping excursion overall. At DG an employee offered to unload my 12 packs of Coke for me into my trunk. I gladly accepted. There was 1 person in line ahead of me picking up their prescriptions at my pharmacy and I waited under 2 minutes. At Aldi, there were loose carts for people to take both when I entered and when I left, which is a rarity. I paid it forward as well.

Sounds like a good run for you. I know your sleep thing is different so I get it. I wake up still just like I had a job. Decades of doing that and it won't undo. That's okay since I like to start early and be done early. 😉

We all have to do what works for us. I used to run on little-to-no sleep so I cherish the mornings I can sleep in, especially if the neighbors' dogs are being quiet.
