Plans for today (2025)

Arrived in lovely Salobreña yesterday and the sun is shining 😊
As usual realise how tired I really am so planning on doing NOTHING today 👏 👏 👏

The fermented black beans and the Togarashi spice blend turned up so I’m going to spend the day wandering around the web cooking websites and compiling shopping lists.

Finally coughed up for a subscription to ‘Great British Chefs’ which is full of very inspiring dishes.
Most of the recipes have a no holds barred approach to cooking.
The first line in the first recipe I read today highlighted the difference between a trained chef and a home cook, it said - “Heat two water baths one to 50c and one to 55c”
This is so the lobster claws and the main body can be cooked separately at precisely the right temperature for that part of the lobster.
Of course every kitchen contains two water baths and every home cook understands that the 5c temp difference is so crucial you need to run both 😂

I wish I was somewhere warm and sunny! Have a delightful day puttering about!

Well I don't love Ft. Lauderdale but at least it will be warm there. Smooth and safe travels. I hope your cruise is fun!
I don’t know anything about it. This whole vacation is one that I’ve (thankfully) had very little input because I’m not particularly interested in it. I’ll mainly be enjoying the food and drink on the ship.

It was kind of a PITA packing, because I have to wear/pack warm outfits for flying there and back, and then cooler things for while we’re there.

Today, I’m wearing a shirt and a sweater, and I’ll be cooking when we land, but I’ll be damned if I’m changing my clothes at 6PM…that’s not far off me bedtime! 😉

I knew that, and again, you'll be warm (and maybe pleasantly tipsy and well-fed). I remember you saying you'd opt out of excursions and get good service on the boat and some respite from the crowds, I think? That's one way of enjoying your cruise!

I know exactly what you mean. We just got back from 3 weeks of varying climates in diffeent areas of Texas and packing was challenging! And then coming home to freezing temperatures after being relatively warm most days...yeah.

It's warm there but you've layered so you can peel off the sweater.

We’re making three stops, plus they have stuff to do in Ft. Lauderdale. We’re skipping Ft. Lauderdale stuff, since we’ll be there for a day on our own anyway, and we’re skipping doing anything in Belize (although I’ve heard MrsT now say, “Maybe we’ll just get off the ship and walk around…” - nope, not interested).

We do have a German-style brewery visit in Honduras, and a short chocolate-eating thing in Mexico, and that’s more than enough for me.

you'll be warm
Warm is highly overrated. We’re supposed to have a low of 1F here Sunday and I’m gonna miss that!

Well she can go with the group, right? Or is she uncomfortable going without you?

Yum.

Well I grew up in Florida, so I can't fathom that...errr, logic?

Yeah, she’ll go walk around without me. She says she had an epiphany a couple of years ago and will no longer try and bully persuade me into doing things I don’t want to do, because it just ruins her time anyway isn’t fair to me, so we’ll see how that holds up.

Honestly, I’m more concerned about her being on her own, with her stroke stuff, so we do try and find someone for her to buddy up with. One thing about cruises…people strike up almost immediate friendships (that last the duration of the cruise).

I find myself thinking it was only a pain to decide what to pack because there’s no way someone with your style doesn’t do layers darling layers 😂
