You eat chicken?Plans for today were mostly completed, but I spent an hour prepping a class for an (online) student who didn't turn up. That's a real bummer, because I stopped making some food for a client to accommodate the non-appearance.
Anyway - tomorrow is another day. I did make a Mangalore Chicken dish, however. Yummy!
LullabelleThis evening we are going to our friends place for cheese, laughs and naughty jokes.
I'd like to know how you prepare the kidneys. I can get them but they strongly smell of urine! My plans were to get up and go and retrieve my mobikes from the container but the Morrisons delivery email said 2 missing items - lambs kidney.
Noooooooo. Mr SSOAP’s really looking forward to steak and kidney and kidney is now ridiculously hard to get hold of.
Morrisons are the only supermarket who say they sell it (but rarely ever manage to deliver it) and none of the other supermarkets stock kidneys of any kind!
So I jump in the car at 8.30am and start the drive to every butcher and supermarket with a meat counter, all in opposite directions of course, after 3 hours I return home having procured 2 pigs kidneys from one butcher and 2 pigs kidneys from another.
The Morrisons butcher who was in unhelpful mode said NO and NO I don’t know where you might get some. The friendlier of the two said there was some on the shelf this morning but they’re now gone
After what felt like an endurance marathon and only 2 mins from home Mr SSOAP rings and says there was lambs liver in the delivery. I reply no thanks you can’t make steak and kidney pudding with lambs liver, he looks again and says oh no it is lambs kidney!
So the two packets that went off the Morrisons shelves in the morning were the ones that went in my shopping! What a waste of time, so frustrating, but on the upside I now have quite a lot of kidneys.
Plus the lambs kidney must of come in after they’d checked my shopping out because they were thrown in gratis. So that’s nice of them.
I used to, and I will on occasions, but for some reason or another, I've just gone off it.You eat chicken?
I thought you only ate fish and ground meat?

What MG saidI'd like to know how you prepare the kidneys. I can get them but they strongly smell of urine!![]()
Thank you MG!I think they shouldn't. I love them. I simply remove the fatty fibrous core and cook in whatever recipe. Some recipes suggest soaking in milk to get rid if any urine taint.
Thus is a recipe for pigs kidneys but will work with lambs too:
Recipe - Devilled pig's kidney with Calvados
Thank you Sassie.What MG said
I can’t say I notice any strong smell from any of the internal organs I buy. Maybe liver and kidneys have a bloodier more irony smell but I could be imagining that. Here’s what AI says (as in it might not be true!) - Yes, lamb kidneys can have a strong, "pissy" or "barn-like" smell that is characteristic of the organ, but this smell indicates that the kidneys are either not fresh or have not been properly prepared. Fresh lamb kidneys should not smell of ammonia, and the smell can be significantly reduced by proper preparation, such as soaking in cold water or milk before cooking.
