Plans for today (2025)

Work, make some little cheese biscuits, and I really have to hunker down and get out Thanksgiving road trip (starts Monday) planned out. Circumstances out of our control meant that we weren’t sure we were going to be able to go until earlier this week.

Now we know we can, I’ve got to think out clothes, the foods we’re bringing, snacks for the car, etc.

…and then we’re back a week and going on a cruise. I’m woefully unprepared!

have meant plans have changed.

Today is only day 18. They're not due until Tuesday at the end of day 21. So going out tomorrow will no longer be an option. I may have at least 1 chick to keep an eye on. They're 7 eggs remaining in the incubator.

All the bikes are back, on battery conditioners in a warmer (15c 59f) dehumidified garage so I'm happy.

Didn't need to use the jump starter for any of them which was great and the battery tender lights took only a few minutes to return to a maintenance charge 👍

But one (the BSA) has been here the entire time because it refused to start.
New battery has arrived, fingers crossed that's the problem (it's the easiest cheapest thing to start on) and I have a new noco battery conditioner for it 👏
Optimate is the dominant conditioner brand here and they're good (what I use on all my bikes here) but NOCO are head n shoulders above them. You can buy battery conditioner leads that you can also jump start directly through. So essentially you have a type of easily accessible socket on your bike you can jump start straight through.
Marvellous idea.

I use them on the bikes in Spain and they have literally saved our bacon more than once.

So my plans are put a new battery and NOCO leads on the BSA (changing a bike battery is usually far more of a pig of a job than you'd think) and then make the steak and kidney pudding filling 👍

Yep. Some Ford Focus are right up there too.
It’s done and it was as suspected an arse of job. The battery that was delivered was much bigger (in-spite of me checking repeatedly it’s the correct battery) so all the wiring was in the way and I’ve knackered my thumb joints getting the swine in there!

Why they think a bolt can catch a loose nut (especially with it all covered moly battery lube) is beyond me!
But I googled it some time ago and it was suggested a piece of battery hose under the nut helps.
It only bloody works! I had to cut the tubing in half to reduce the diameter but that another story.

Alls well that ends well. Now onto the steak and kidney pudding.

We’re leaving Monday for Rochester, NY (by way of MrsT’s birth city, Corning, NY), and while I’ve got a list of Thanksgiving-related supplies to lay in, I’m holding off until we get there. Why buy them here just to haul them there?

I’m still out-and-about today, though. Maybe do a little Christmas shopping. 🤷‍♂️

I delivered some fresh oregano (from the garden) to a friend of mine across the city. I also delivered some chutneys & piccalilli to a client, then went to a numismatic exhibition in one of the hotels, in the hope of finding someone who might want to buy my ginormous stamp collection.
Reality check. No-one collects stamps any more.:(
Shopping for rice, flour, wine, chickpeas and parsley, then back home.
Now I'm going to make a stock with lamb bones and some veg, which will then be used to make lamb Khalpouri and it looks like now, right now, I've got to cook some lunch.

Eggs confuse me. I have seen people buy eggs from farmers that are sitting out of refrigeration, and I always see eggs at the supermarket in constant refrigeration. Do they need to always be refrigerated? They are created in normal conditions, so this confuses me.

Pretty successful day out, even if it did wear me out.

I managed to get an end-of-year thank-you gift for my lovely hair stylist-pamperer, an excellent bowl of chili that was presented somewhat like French onion soup, some tinsel for the tree, a handful of stocking stuffers for MrsT, two bottles of rum, road trip snacks, and a Christmas gift for MrsT.

When chickens lay eggs the eggs are covered with a protective bloom that defends against microbial infection. This is why farm eggs can remain unrefrigerated. Commercial eggs are washed and that is removed, hence refrigeration is required. Commercial eggs go bad way faster than farm fresh.
