Plans for today (2026)

Very little - pork and sauerkraut already made (although MrsT has told me I need to make more sauerkraut, because she likes her pork and sauerkraut with a side of sauerkraut), and that’s really about it.

I actually like NYD quite a bit because of that. Don’t get me wrong, I’m Christmas through and through, but there’s always a lot to do Christmas Day, and just like January (around here anyway) is the most boring month, it’s nice to kick it off with a boring day of nearly zero expectations.

Black eyed peas are in the slow cooking crockpot, they can take their time. I threw in a bone, not sure if its pork of lamb bone, but it will be tasty. Ham will be added later.

Any seasonings?
Not really, but I threw in some ham, they are salty. A bay leaf or two. I have onions, celery(from my garden), carrots sautéed with garlic. So that’s pretty much it. This recipe does suggest to throw in some tomatoes but I don’t want to do it. Enough is enough.

Here is what not working out as planned, the turkey.
What a turkey it is to find out the inside is still not 100% defrosted, I took it out of a freezer the 29th, and it’s only a 14 lbs turkey.
We may have to have a late lunch, but at least we have soup to start out with.

I'd leave out the tomatoes too. What you've got going is pretty much what I do. I've never put carrots in though.
