Barriehie mentioned pruning peach trees so I wondered when people prune or prefer to prune. I usually prune very early in the year before buds come thru. I also trim dead wood and so on at any time I spot it. We have apples, grapes, pears, apricots and non fruit shade trees and wind break trees. Our peaches have just blossomed and the apples are in full bloom.

I try to prune the fruit trees in dead of winter when all the sap is down and infection risk is low. I missed the peach tree this winter so I'm going to trim the new branches. Best to keep the tree open in the middle for airflow.

Ok makes sense.
We had zero peaches last year. Hope the blossoms have set and stay on this year.

I missed the green grape (pretty sure it's Interlaken) this winter - it's bushed not trellised and fruits on the new growth. It was well pruned last year and didn't produce a huge amount of new growth as it was exceptionally dry so should be ok.

How old is the peach tree?

Not sure. It's a seed grown tree like many out here. We took out one next to it that died a couple of years ago - I'll take a look at the main trunk that was left in, cut to about a foot off the ground in case it came back. Should be able to tell by the tree rings
