My mother started my brother and sister off with mashed/puree of various vegetables initially. Usually by themselves, along with stewed fruit. So each was just a plain puree of carrots or parsnips or apple for example. Nothing added at all. It should taste bland to an adult.
Once my brother and sister were old enough, we started to not completely puree it, leaving small but easily swallowed pieces of veg in the puree.
No extra anything was added at the start, so no salt, no sugar, no oil, no butter etc.
I can't remember what age yoghurt was introduced but again it was unsweetened or it just had plain stewed fruit added. Mashed banana was another one they had a little of.
If you look at what is in organic baby food suitable for 6 months, you'll quickly work out what they can and can't have and what can be mixed with what. Mostly baby food is about what you don't add and that's salt.
Thst is about the only thing I really remember; the first stage of starting them on pureed food because once meat was added, I refused to try it so neither my brother or sister would eat it if I didn't! (I raised my both of them and was vegetarian at the time, I'm now vegan plus eggs from my own chickens). That didn't go down well with family at all but neither of them suffered at all from it. They were both always the tallest, loudest and most active in their class or year.
Hopefully someone else will come along with a few ideas for you.
Mod hat on:
As always though recipes need to be in their own thread and a link back to this thread please though.
