Red Quinoa

I have been eating red quinoa I bought some time ago, trying to finish it off. I am having something issues with it though and I don't know if it's my cooking method, a food pairing method or just my body. Basically I am coming it like rice, I let it cook for at least 40 minutes to try to get it nice and soft. It doesn't seem to ever get all the way there though, and soaking it overnight beforehand didn't make a noticeable difference. The grains are so tiny that the ones that don't fully soften can feel like sand in my teeth. That's not so much the problem, it's that they don't always fully digest. Sorry for TMI, but I don't know what to do about it. If I am not fully digesting a food I change how I am preparing it, but what am I doing wrong? Does red quinoa need specific treatment, or even longer time? I never had an issue with white quinoa at all.
