Thanks for posting - sounds really interesting! They grow wild around here - branched and not as large as the single flowered commercial varieties but would be perfect size wise - much the same diameter as globe artichokes - perfect cooking size. Speaking of artichokes, Jerusalem artichokes aka sunchokes are sunflower family as you probably know so tender sunflower heads may be similar tasting? Definitely trying this come July/August when they flower.

For North Am based members interested - we get seeds (incl the outstanding yellow long watermelons) from these seed conservation people we know in Tucson - very well worth supporting - happy to plug them if thats ok SatNavSaysStraightOn otherwise can edit accordingly.

What is tween?

11, 12, 13 years. Not quite a little kid, but not a true teen either.
