Haven't had one since we last went home in 2019.

Never had these and I doubt they are obtainable here. A quick search revealed spectacular flowers as well as fruit. What do they taste like?

....oh, It seems I can order them from specialist suppliers in the UK - but all the ones I looked at are 'out of stock'. I believe they grow in Thailand (as well as other countries) so maybe Yorky has come across them.

There´s a house just up the road from mine in Caracas that´s got a HUGE tree of these things. In Venezuela they call them "pomarosa"...ie. roseapple. Pinkish red on the outside, brilliant white on the inside. Lovely fruit, but (a) difficult to preserve (b) don´t last too long.
I´ve used them in chaat masala type salad, or Indonesian rudjak.

They have oddly enough a rose taste and scent to them. Nice sweet, crunchy, juicy fruit. I'm from the wet side of the island of Oahu and as kids, we'd go hiking up the small mountain behind our house and pick all sorts of fruits growing wild, and this was a favorite.
And yes the flowers are beautiful, much like an Ohia, which is why in the Hawaiian language the Rose Apple is called Ohia ai.

We eat loads of them in season (translated: my wife eats loads of them in season).

Wanna hear something funny? In Jamaica we call those Otaheite Apples. I see they are also called Malay apples. Mild, sweet, floral flavor.
But the interesting bit is we have something different that we call "Rose Apple":
Rose Apple - Syzygium jambos - Seeds

These bear no resemblance to roses or a rosey color, but when you bite into it, it tastes like Rose Water!
