I thought it might be interesting to see people's most used, most stained, oldest cookbooks! OK, we can only share photos of the outer covers because of copyright issues with photographing your most stained recipe...

But here's mine.

The reprinted date is 1984, so I would jabbed been 11. It was bought new by my parents after my Grannie bought a copy so she could cook for me after I turned vegetarian. I knicked it when I went to university in 1991.

I took some of the cookbooks from my parents house, so they will be quite old.
Will dig them out a bit later on.

I have quite a lot. I've also requested some for Christmas. I'll have to assemble them together which might take a while. I don't use them much for the recipes but as research, and as a window on social cultural history. I even have a book about the history of cookery books.

What constitutes vintage? I reckon a majority of my 200+ cookery books might qualify!

Pre 2000?
Pre 1990?
Pre 1980?
Pre 197O?
Pre 1960?
Etc.

I have a few Victorian and Edwardian. Some war time cookery books. Quite a few 1950's which I love. And a host of others from all eras!

First one I ever got, 1975.

A few on bread making, 20+ years ago.

Here are a few. The first is an 1909 version of Mrs Beeton's Everyday Cookbook. Ravaged by termites and very much the worse for wear, but over a century old.
The second is one of my most used books: Madhur Jaffrey's Eastern Vegetarian Cooking.
The final picture is of the books I used as a teenager/student, mostly from the 40s, 50, and 60s.

I got 3 of those.
2 on kindle (artisan bread every day and tartine bread)
Flour water yeast salt as book

1969 and 1987
First one was my parents and talks about meat. Lots of meat, all type of cuts & uses plenty butter
The 2nd one is mine and goes through recipes month by month as to what was/is available. I still use it.

Mostly around 1980
It won't surprise you they are Indonesian

This one was given to me, but not in 1970 as I was only 3 or 4 by then. But Windigo might have a giggle as this is one of the books she talks about in the Dutch food thread.
My brother managed to get his hands on "de kleine ik kan koken" before me (unfortunately)

In between the Indonesian food books is one from oma (grandma) Keasberry and I recently purchased the book from her grandson.

New print of an oldie my wife bought me this summer.

This one’s from the 1960’s. As far as print date goes, it’s the oldest one I have.

This one’s from the 1980’s, but I love it because it has a lot of things that were popular in the 1950’s in it. There’s a whole chapter on Jell-O salads (sweet and savory)!

This one isn’t that old, but I’m including it because, while it’s more a history book, it has about 20 recipes from colonial-new country America in it.

Same with this one. It’s from 1969, but it contains recipes from each period of the US, from colonial right up to contemporary ones. Price was a noted gourmet cook, and these are recipes he collected and shared.

Then there’re these:

Those are from MrsT’s mom, some from her grandmother, though many undoubtedly go back before that. I’m set, should zweiback pudding ever come back into fashion!
