SLAWBURGER
Makes 1 burger
Ingredients
1/3 cup prepared coleslaw (preferably with mayonnaise dressing)
1 hamburger patty, cooked to your liking
2 slices American cheese*
1 hamburger bun, untoasted
Directions
Place one piece of cheese on the bottom of the bun. Add hamburger patty and second piece of cheese. Place in a warmed oven for a few minutes to melt the cheese, if desired.
Top burger with coleslaw, then top half of bun. Press down slightly to ensure coleslaw dressing moistens the bun a bit. Serve immediately.
*Not the stuff in the plastic wrap, but the American cheese from the deli or a similar prepackaged brand, like Kraft Deli Deluxe.
This is a somewhat Southern, somewhat Midwestern US specialty, usually found at walk-up dairy bars like Tastee-Freez and best enjoyed at a picnic table in the parking lot on a day with oppressive humidity, high temps, and lots of flies bothering you.
