Snake Season is Here...

Well, this is good to know but so far I've only, knock on wood, seen King Snakes in the yard.

GA Snakes and Fences
When I was a kid, we’d have black snakes (harmless, but big) climb up in the rafters of any of the outbuildings to get to the birds’ nests…one even pooped on my dad once.

MrsT is terrified of snakes, and a few years ago, she was out at the brush line picking wild black raspberries and a black snake fell out of tree and landed next to her. That ended her berry picking for the year. She’d never seen anything like that before, didn’t really consider a snake could be up a tree.

Copperheads get in the trees around here. Kind of have to stay on the trails when hunting in the fall. You can surprise them and they fall out. They're not aggressive but it can sure startle you and the snake!

Some snakes live in trees and only come down to travel to mate.

On the subject of snakes as food, long ago I saw a TV segment about some kind of rattlesnake roundup and cookout where hundreds of rattlesnakes were caught since their population had allegedly grown to become a danger and then prepared, fried and eaten. I thought they looked quite tasty actually but there'd be little chance of me ever trying it.

I've eaten snake elsewhere (Vietnam) and I liked it.

They have a python roundup in South Florida in the Everglades every year with cash prizes in various categories. I think it recently ended IIRC, though pythons can be killed year round when found as they are invasive.

Forgot about those. They put trackers on the males to find the females which can have a *lot* of young.
