Super Bowl 2026

Ok so weirdly enough it seems that I, a Canadian, is the one who’s the most excited for the Super Bowl on this forum!

I will absolutely watch (I do every year). The prize for winning the family pool is choosing the food for Super Bowl Sunday. My dad took the victory this year so it’s up to him what we eat.

So game day is here, but I'm more excited about the food and having people over. I fired up the smoker in 7*F weather and have a rack of ribs on, which take almost 6 hours to smoke. I'm also about to start a batch of Pennsyltucky chili, and have pigs shots prepped and 5 lbs of chicken wings ready to go on when the ribs are done. I plan to do half the wings with an Old Bay dry rub and the other half with Frank's Hot Sauce. Mrs. GH is making jalepeno cornbread, buffalo chicken dip, and loaded baked potatoes. We'll have a TON of food, but will be short on seating, even though we moved another sofa into the living room from the den. I'll be cool just hanging in the kitchen with others who aren't interested in game. 👍

What,'s old bay rub?
I've heard it mentioned before, but what's in it?
In the US, it's the iconic blue crab seasoning, particularly around the Chesapeake Bay area on the East Coast. Supposedly, it's a mix of 18 spices, but they only list celery salt, specifically. The rest is a trade secret. Lots of people have developed copycats, but it's not expensive and just so much easier to buy the real deal. We buy it by the 1.5 lb container. It's also great for shrimp, chicken (like the wings I'll be making), French fries, and other things as well. 👍

OLD BAY® Steamed Blue Crabs Recipe | McCormick

Copycat versions include celery salt, paprika, black pepper, red or cayenne pepper, bay leaves, cinnamon, ginger, cardamom, cloves, and allspice, plus whatever anyone can figure. If you go down the rabbit hole among blue crab aficionados, the best crab seasoning is hotly contested. Some swear by Old Bay (me), others Zatarain's, and yet others swear by much smaller local brands or homemade concoctions. I've had many versions, but Old Bay still reigns King my book. It's probably not unlike the battles between Marmite vs. Vegemite, lol. 🤣

So far, the ribs are coming along nicely, a giant batch of chili is simmering, and Mrs. GH made the cornbread. The potatoes will be going in the oven soon, as well.
